Central Park, page 2

Have a look around the square. Although many of the buildings have had their facades changed through the years, the skyline is remarkably similar to how it appeared around 1900.

A building boom in the 1890's caused all the frame buildings to be replaced by brick by 1913.

Sadly many of the pressed-tin cornices have been stripped away or covered up.

On the north side of the square, the three-story building with the turret has changed very little, and is unusual because few commercial buildings were built in the Queen Anne style.

From the Fairfield City website comes this:

"Fairfield is proud of the Downtown area and the Central Park Square!    As part of the Revitalization Project, areas will be improved with painting, bricking, flowers, and landscaping. This project will take place over the next few months and years, in coordination with the Fairfield Beautification Committee."
